THE WILD TASTES OF KARST AT ŠTANJEL CASTLE

Visit Štanjel and pamper yourself with an exceptional culinary experience offered by the untamed Karst flavours!
Immerse yourself in the medieval village of Štanjel and taste the wilderness of the Karst common, the key ingredient of the local dishes with a touch of Mediterranean cuisine. Infused with wild asparagus, lemon balm, nettle, onion scents, the courtyard will also offer a rich and varied selection of local herb spirits, liqueur and teas. Those who love walking will have the opportunity to discover the flavours during a botanic stroll from Štanjel to Branik, yet another castle nearby, and enjoy the breathtaking views. Later in the afternoon, the local inhabitants of Štanjel will raise the typical maypole, and when the night falls, the traditional bonfire will light up the evening. All weekend long the village will live with a rich farmer's and arts market, with galleries and museum collections open to the public as well as guided tours of Štanjel also available.

Programme
From 9:30 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. – Karst Landscape Festival: Branik - Štanjel, Botanic walk from one castle to another; Rihemberk – Štanjel, starting point: Branik train station, return by train from Štanjel at 4.56 p. m.
From 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. – Rich accompanying programme, market, guided tours etc.
From noon to 5 p. m. – The wild tastes od Karst in the castle's courtyard

During its spring edition, the festival will explore the useful wild plants, organise gastronomical and photo workshops, welcome you on walks about the local botanic culture and castles. Roundtables will also be held to discover the past, the present and the future challenges the manors face on the Karst and in the Reka river basin.
